FSeli 1 on Fire, pictures, flaming ship near Blouberg, jinxed coal carrier up in flames
Firestorm: The stranded Selli 1  which ran aground off Table View beach last year caught fire late Thursday afternoon (3 June 2010). It is still uncertain what started the fire. At one point people screamed in fear after a loud explosion rocked the burning ship with jagged pieces of steel spraying the sea around the vessel. One of the Cape’s largest water resources – the Cape Aquifer - is literally being bled dry by developers who regularly rupture the natural reservoir when they put down foundations for their developments. This water is then simply pumped away to storm water pipes and eventually runs off into the sea. A prime example is the situation at Big Bay.
